Taixing city, administered by Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province, was recently ranked 20th on the List of the 24th National Top 100 Counties with Basic Competitiveness in County Economy.
The list was released by the Zhongjun Research Institute, a body that studies the county economy.
The county economy provides the material foundations of county development and the evaluation adopted basic indicators, measuring each county economy's quality, speed, and vitality, among other factors.
Taixing, with a recorded history of more than a thousand years, is known as the hometown of education, ginkgo trees, architecture, violins and mechanical power transmission devices.
In 2023, the city's GDP hit 146 billion yuan ($20 billion), industrial invoiced sales reached 215 billion yuan and total retail sales of consumer goods came in at 34.8 billion yuan.
