A launching ceremony for the characteristic farm produce Xianghe taro of Taixing city – administered by Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu province – was held in Qixiang village in Huangqiao town on Oct 30.
In the harvest season, people enjoy tasting various delicacies made from fragrant Xianghe taro, with sales of the vegetable often skyrocketing.
Taixing has a 600-year history of planting and cultivating Xianghe taro. This and the ginkgo tree are famous for their longevity in the city.
At present, the city's annual income from planting Xianghe taro stands at about 100 million yuan ($13.74 million).
A large-scale Xianghe taro production base has been established there and it is recognized as a national agricultural product geographical indication protection base, boosting the quality, scale, and brand of Taixing Xianghe taro.
