Academician Li Deren – from the Jiangyan district of Taizhou city, located in East China's Jiangsu province – was recently named the 2024 China Space Public Image Ambassador.
He was conferred with the honor on April 24, at the start of the 2024 China Space Conference – the annual international event jointly hosted by the China Society of Astronautics and the China Space Foundation – that was held on April 24-26 in the city of Wuhan in Central China's Hubei province.
Taizhou's Li holds prestigious titles as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences.
Additionally, he serves as a corresponding member of the International Academy of Astronautics and as an honorary member of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
As a professor and doctoral degree supervisor at Wuhan University, he is internationally recognized as an expert in geospatial information.
His top accomplishments in theoretical innovation, integrated innovation and collaborative innovation within the field of geospatial information science are widely said to have significantly contributed to China's standing as one of the world's top three leaders in this field.
Li reacted with positive enthusiasm to his appointment, observing that being chosen as the public image ambassador was both a privilege and a responsibility.
"I have dedicated my entire career to this field, from inception to independent development in aerial, terrestrial and maritime surveying, remote sensing and navigation," he said.
"It is imperative that we persist in enhancing China's diverse satellite systems and continue to make meaningful contributions to humanity." Li added.
