Editor's note: History will never forget May 12, 2008, when at 2:28 pm a magnitude-8 earthquake rocked Wenchuan county in Sichuan province and caused countless lives to come to a sudden end.
With May 12 commemorating the 15th anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake, the Jiangyan Economic Development Zone – located in Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province – organized a large-scale emergency response competition, to improve its capacity for disaster prevention and relief.

In the firefighting skills competition, full-time fire brigade members from the zone carried out materials handling and rescue exercises, various other exercises and 60-meter extension ladder demonstration exercises.
Community safety officers learned emergency skills through observation and improved their firefighting skills through competitions and training.
Honorary certificates were presented to outstanding individual pacesetters and collectives.
After the event, the safety supervision people of the development zone and its department of ecological and environmental protection organized key fire protection units to carry out fire extinguisher use training – to improve firefighting skills and overall emergency response capabilities.
