The 2024 Qinhu Lake winter fishing festival started with great fanfare on Jan 27 along the shores of Qinhu Lake, situated in the Jiangyan district of Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province.

The opening festival featured a number of great activities including a folk show, traditional fishing demonstrations and the crowning of the "Qinhu Fish King".
Scheduled to continue until the Spring Festival, the event aims to harvest 250,000 kilograms of fish.
Benefiting from the holiday market, local fishermen have capitalized on the season, with over 6,000 mu (400 hectares) of water area opened up for fishing.
A highlight of the opening ceremony was this year's "Qinhu Fish King" title – awarded to a 49.13-kilogram herring, which fetched an impressive price of 58,000 yuan following a heated bidding war.
In addition to these festivities, both online and offline events during the festival will include the Qinhu New Year's shopping bazaar and a fish stocking ceremony, during which 40,000 kilograms of fish fries will be released.
