The Qinhu Lake scenic area, located in the Lixiahe region – one of the three geological depressions in East China's Jiangsu province – is regarded as being a prime tourist destination for leisure, vacations and recreation.
It has six scenic spots, including a national wetlands park, an ancient town, a marine world theme park and a light show, as well as other facilities such as an overseas Chinese town and local-style homestays.
The Qinhu Lake National Wetland Park covers an area of seven square kilometers. There is beautiful wetlands terrain and local culture to see, as well as fascinating folk customs. The area is abundant in water and grass and since ancient times a rich variety of wildlife – including scarce elk – has lived there.
Even today, the area still maintains a clean water environment and pristine wetlands ecology, which together with the rare geothermal hot springs, makes it so precious.
The Qinhu Lake wetland is typical landscape of its type – mainly with semi-natural farming wetlands, where there are large reed swamps, low-water ponds and self-forming paddy fields. All this makes the area a rare freshwater wetland and natural oxygen bar.
As a result, it has been designated as a national wetland park, a national water conservation scenic area, a national forest tourism demonstration area and a national 5A tourist attraction, among others.
Owing to its rich water and soil resources, there is lots of freshwater food available. Eight varieties of freshwater fish and other prized food from Qinhu Lake are used in great local culinary dishes.
