Farmers at the Tianyuan family farm in Gangyang town, Hailing district, Taizhou city, East China's Jiangsu province, have been busy using machines to aid their planting of rice seedlings.
Local official Cao Yang said that using machines to perform the task improves efficiency and allows for an estimated 3 to 5 mu (0.2-0.33 hectares) of seedlings to be planted every day.

The family farm, which has planting rice for more than 10 years, has in recently times been upgrading its sowing and seedling management methods. For example, the farm now uses centralized seedling cultivation as it has a good germination rate and helps reduce planting costs, said a farmer named Zhao Wenbin.
Hailing district said it will enhance efforts to help its farmers with the mechanical transplanting of rice and seedling cultivation, and expand the area of rice transplanted by machines to more than 12 percent this year.
