Taizhou city in East China's Jiangsu province will roll out a raft of measures to promote its scientific and technological innovation – senior officials told a news conference on Aug 3.

Taizhou has seen key breakthroughs in sci-tech achievements in four areas – progress in reforms of systems and mechanisms, cultivating business entities, in attracting resources, as well as in upgrading innovation platforms – said Bao Ya, director of the Taizhou bureau of science and technology.

By the end of last year, the city was home to 3,895 small and medium-sized businesses, 1,601 high-tech enterprises and 10 leading innovative companies, Bao added.

Looking ahead, Taizhou plans to speed up attracting sci-tech innovation projects with a high-added value, high technological content and great growth potential.

Using leverage from its existing platforms, the city will aim to ramp up the establishment of offshore innovation centers – facilities located elsewhere in the country that it funds and operates – so as to promote the commercialization of its more innovative achievements at home.

Taizhou will also boost support of technology, personnel and finance to incentivize businesses.

Last year, it was ranked among the top 50 national innovative cities in the innovations capacity ranking, displaying a strong development momentum.
