A recent Spring Festival event at Thailand's King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) was a lively celebration of Sino-Thai cultural exchange.

A standout performance was a dance by Thai students featuring Shuanglin silk damask fans from Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

Shuanglin silk damask, produced in Huzhou's Shuanglin town and woven from pure silk, is a prized traditional product known for its soft, light texture.

The fans, adorned with images of Shuanglin's iconic three bridges, beautifully showcased the intricate craftsmanship and artistic elegance of Shuanglin silk damask, captivating the audience with the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture.

Silk damask, known as ling juan in Chinese, is a general term for damask silk and spun silk. The silks with complex decorative patterns are damask silk, and those with plain colors are spun silk.

In recent years, Shuanglin silk has embraced innovation while preserving traditional techniques. A range of cultural and creative silk products has been developed, including handbags, painted screens, fans, kites, and other fashion items.

"We have partnered with KMITL and Global International Services Thailand, fostering a government-business-academic collaboration to promote Shuanglin silk internationally," said a representative from Shuanglin town.
