Huzhou in Zhejiang province has been awarded the title of the 2025 Culture City of East Asia, announced by the Huzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, and Tourism.

The Culture City of East Asia initiative, established in 2012, has recognized 35 cities from China, Japan, and South Korea over the years. Through 2023, China had seen 15 cities, including Chengdu and Qingdao, honored with this title.

Out of the 14 initially shortlisted candidate cities for the 2025 accolade, Huzhou stood out following rigorous evaluations and on-site inspections. Alongside five other cities, Huzhou advanced to the final evaluation round, culminating in its victory on May 10 during the conclusive assessment held in Beijing.

A senior official from the Huzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, and Tourism noted, "This designation serves as an international urban cultural emblem, playing a pivotal role in advancing Huzhou's cultural and tourism sectors while bolstering the city's global standing."

Looking ahead, the official outlined Huzhou's strategic plans to leverage this recognition by orchestrating a diverse array of cultural and tourism events, actively engaging in nationwide cultural and tourism exchanges, and fostering robust mutual learning and interactions within the realm of East Asian humanities.
