The Asian Games Hangzhou sealed its first carbon credit transaction in Qingyuan county, Lishui, Zhejiang province on Feb 21.

The transaction was completed at the launch ceremony of the "Green Asian Games, Low Carbon with You" sponsorship program, where Wahaha Group’s new product -- "Oxygen World Zero Carbon Water" -- emerged as the first product to feature carbon credits provided by the Xianliang Forest Management Carbon Benefit Project in Xianliang town, Qingyuan county.

Xianliang town and Alibaba Cloud's Energy Expert were instrumental in providing carbon credits that helped offset the carbon footprint of the product. Through online carbon offsetting and third-party certification services, customers can scan the QR code to access real-time carbon data.

The first batch of 1000 bottles of Wahaha Oxygen World Zero Carbon Water consumed 226.33 kilograms of CO2 equivalent, which was offset by the carbon credits provided by the Xianliang Forest Management Carbon Benefit Project.

The project, covering an operating area of 1,121.13 hectares, features tree species such as Carya cathayensis and Chinese fir and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 5,166.68 tons annually.

With the Asian Games scheduled to run from Sept 23 to Oct 8, the "Green Asian Games, Low Carbon with You" program is expected to be a major highlight of this much-anticipated sporting event, said the organizers.
