Household garbage sorting has been promoted in all villages in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

The garbage sorting system where residents are required to dispose of garbage at fixed locations and times in a classified manner has been applied to more than 93 percent of the residential communities across the city.

Huzhou's domestic garbage has decreased by 2.93 percent year-on-year in the first nine months of this year, the third year in a row that it has declined.

In addition, the city has launched smart garbage recycling machines, which are capable of identifying whether there are different types of garbage in a garbage bag disposed by a resident.

In instances of wrongdoing, the instructors will be alerted to correct the error, while the wrongdoers will be reminded to dispose their garbage properly the next time.

The city has also put a unified garbage sorting management platform into operation. The platform is capable of monitoring all stages of the garbage disposal process, including garbage classification, collection, and transportation.

It has collected data retrieved by monitoring facilities installed in 1,253 residential communities, 40,000 enterprises or institutions, over 10,000 restaurants, and 11 centralized garbage disposal facilities.
