Athletes from Zhejiang who have won medals at this year's Tokyo 2020 Olympics and 14th National Games were commended by the Zhejiang provincial government on Oct 26, local media outlets reported.
These athletes have won a total of seven gold, two silver, and one bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and 44 gold, 35 silver, and 37 bronze medals at the 14th National Games. The medal hauls at both events are the highest among municipalities, provinces, and autonomous regions in China.
Olympic gold medalists from Zhejiang, including shooter Yang Qian, swimmer Wang Shun, weight lifter Shi Zhiyong, and gymnast Guan Chenchen, attended the commendation conference.
Yang Qian, 21, became an instant global sensation when she won the first gold medal of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at the 10 meter air rifle event on July 24. She topped the podium once more in the 10m air rifle mixed team competition three days later.
