Changxing county in Huzhou has been listed among the fifth batch of national demonstration zones for ecological civilization construction, according to a notice recently released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
A total of 100 places across the nation won the honor.
In recent years, Changxing has made continuous efforts to improve the ecological environment by adhering to the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
The county has improved the quality of 1,134 water bodies and tackled the pollution caused by the direct discharge of sewage.
The "river chief" system, which sees officials at each level of government appointed to take charge of the water sources in their area, has also been promoted in the county.
Great efforts have been made by Changxing to promote biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration. All 11 towns under its jurisdiction have been honored as Zhejiang provincial forest towns.
To date, four administrative areas in Huzhou - Anji county, Deqing county, Wuxing district and Changxing county - have been listed as national demonstration zones for ecological civilization construction.
Huzhou and its Anji county have also been listed as practice and innovation bases for the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
