Huzhou shows record-breaking performance at National Games

Athletes from Huzhou won a total of 16 medals at the 14th National Games which came to a close in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, on Sept 27.

The city in East China's Zhejiang province sent a record-high 112 athletes to attend the quadrennial Games.

The haul of four gold, four silver and eight bronze medals marked Huzhou's best performance in the history of the Games.

In addition, the city also clinched two gold and one bronze medals in mass public events. At the 14th National Games, 185 disciplines across 19 sports were opened to the public to boost the national fitness campaign.

Li Jianxin bagged gold in the track cycling event with his partners Luo Yongjia and Lu Jiachen with a time of 43.019 seconds, a new national record.

Shooter Han Jiayu from Huzhou, along with Yang Qian and Wang Zhilin, won the women's 10m air rifle team final at the Games.

The Zhejiang team, which included four players from Huzhou, won the U20 men's football final by defeating the Xinjiang team.

Ji Bowen, who is from Huzhou's Anji county, and Miao Feilong, representing Zhejiang, won the gold medal in the men's 500m double sculls final. The Zhejiang pair edged past the Guangdong team and clocked a time of 1 minute and 46.778 seconds to win the race.
