A record-high 112 athletes from Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province will attend China's 14th National Games, which is slated to kick off in Xi'an, Shaanxi province on Sept 15.

Medals are up for grabs in a total of 595 disciplines across 54 sports at the Games, which are billed as a "mini-Olympics" in the country.

A major attraction is that 50 gold medalists at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are set to compete at the National Games.

Some events, including track cycling, tennis, and volleyball were completed before the opening ceremony, with the Huzhou delegation already winning one gold medal and four bronze medals.

Over the next few days, the Huzhou delegation is expected to seize additional medals in events including women's air rifle, sand volleyball, and canoeing.

At the 14th National Games, 185 disciplines across 19 sports are open to the public in an effort to boost the national fitness campaign. A total of 38 athletes from Huzhou are expected to compete in mass public events, including table tennis, tennis, soccer, Go, chess, and bridge.
