The Guangzhou-Foshan East Ring Intercity Railway project has recently made new progress, entering the track laying phase. This railway starts from Guangzhou South Station, with a total length of about 47 kilometers and a designed speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

It comprises eight stations, passing through areas such as Huangpu district (Guangzhou International Bio Island). This project is a vital part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area intercity railway network, connecting Guangzhou South Station with key hubs like Baiyun airport. This will reduce travel time between Guangzhou South Station and Baiyun airport to just half an hour, facilitating seamless integration between high-speed rail and air transport.
There have also been new developments in the Huangpu Open Avenue project. Located in Huangpu district, this project involves the enhancement and renovation of a number of existing roads. The East Second Ring-Guangzhou-Shenzhen Overpass, spanning about 1,020 meters, plays a crucial role in north-south traffic in Huangpu.

The Open Avenue will link the south to Guangzhou South Station, Panyu district, and Nansha district, and the north to Baiyun airport, Conghua district, and Baiyun district. It will also connect the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, Guangzhou Science City, and Guangzhou Maritime Silk Road City—three major economic hubs—serving as a hub for various important resources and supporting the development of the eastern part of Guangzhou.
These transportation projects are meant to strengthen transportation links between Huangpu and its surrounding districts.
