Changes to operating hours for Guangzhou Metro during holiday

Updated : 2024-04-30

With the upcoming holiday, Guangzhou's subway system is preparing for a surge in ridership. On April 30, the day before the holiday, the subway network expects to handle over 11 million passengers, while averaging about 9.1 million daily riders throughout the holiday period.

To ensure smooth travel for residents during this busy time, the subway will extend service hours. On April 30 and May 1, all subway lines will operate for an additional hour. Furthermore, on May 4 and 5, select lines will extend their services by one to 2.5 hours.

The subway system is anticipating its peak passenger flow on April 30 due to evening rush hour and short-distance trips. To manage this, measures will include deploying backup trains and adjusting peak hour schedules on several lines.

From May 1 to May 5, there will be an overlap with the third phase of the Canton Fair, which is expected to further increase subway ridership. Subway capacity will be adjusted based on passenger demand during this period.

For the convenience of returning travelers, Lines 1, 3 (including the northern section), 5, and 8 will extend their operating hours by one hour on May 4 and 5. Additionally, Line 2 will extend service by 2.5 hours until 2 am the following day, with specific adjustments for express trains.

Significant increases in passenger flow are expected at key transportation hubs, transfer stations, nearby attractions, and commercial areas during the holiday period. Passengers are advised to plan their routes and travel times in advance and to follow station announcements and notices regarding crowd control measures.

The Guangzhou Metro aims to ensure passenger safety and convenience throughout the busy holiday season.
