Huangpu releases 1st batch of inhalable COVID-19 vaccines

Guangzhou recently released the first batch of inhalable vaccines at the first six inhalation vaccination sites in Huangpu district, which are located in each street community, to provide vaccination services to residents.

Booster vaccinations are required for those who are 18 to 59 years years old and have completed 6 months of basic immunizations, and for those aged 60 years old and above who have completed 3 months of immunizations.

The inhalable COVID-19 vaccine is known to be easier, faster, and more painless than traditional intramuscular vaccinations. The dose of 0.1 ml per person is only one-fifth of the traditional dose and induces a triple response of mucosal, humoral, and cellular immunity at the same time.

A nebulized cup containing the nebulized vaccine will be handed to the patient who will exhale deeply and then inhale deeply until the cup is free of mist. It is important to note that the exhalation should not be directed at the nebulized cup and that the breath should be held for five seconds after the inhalation.

The medical staff says that after finishing inhaling the COVID-19 vaccine, people should remain on-site for 30 minutes, during which time they can not drink, eat or smoke.

According to the Huangpu Center for Disease Control and Prevention, a  total of 1.46 million people have been vaccinated in Huangpu and nearly 94,000 people aged 60 and above have been fully vaccinated as of Dec 6.

At present, Huangpu district can make appointments for vaccinations through various channels, and the district has also adopted various methods such as home deliveries of vaccinations to serve special groups such as the elderly in order to continuously improve the vaccination rate of people in the district.
