Huangpu wraps up intl algorithm case competition

The final round of this year's International AIgorithm Case Competition hosted by Pazhou Laboratory (Huangpu) wrapped up recently, promoting technological innovation and attracting more young talents to Guangzhou.

To seize the opportunities presented by the latest revolutions in science, technology, and industrial transformation, the city aims to develop its digital economy as a top priority. 

The goal was to create the first international competition in the Guangdong- Hong Kong- Macao Greater Bay Area based on the theme of algorithms, to promote innovations and boost the high-quality development of science and technology in China.

By selecting the best algorithms, the competition attracted the attention of international high-end talents, pushing the development of research and development in this field in the district and further promoting the integration of digital technology with the real economy.

Top experts and professors designed forward-looking algorithms based on cutting-edge research as they vied for the top spot, as Guangzhou hopes to become a global hub for AI algorithms in the months and years ahead. The winner of the top prize pocketed 10 million yuan ($1.43 million), the highest bonus ever presented at this level of competition in China so far.

The contest invited academics, scholars, and professors to serve as judges.

Some 6,630 people and 1,678 teams registered, including 439 top universities from China and abroad including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Sun Yat-sen University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the National University of Singapore. 

Moreover, 454 scientific research departments join the competition including those run by Huawei, JD.com, Baidu, and Meituan.

A total of 86 teams were selected from the 150 that entered the final.

Huangpu district is focusing on artificial intelligence to help take its digital economy to the next level.
