Nangang River exemplifies Huangpu's protection-minded development

Updated : 2022-12-02

The Nangang River has completed more than 20 kilometers of greenways and over 90 percent of ecological revetment.

The river that runs through Huangpu district was selected as the only project in Guangdong for inclusion in the Ministry of Water Resources' first batch of "Happy River and Lake" construction projects this April. That came after a related project by the Guangdong provincial water resources department and a review by the Ministry of Water Resources.

Huangpu district has been working hard to create a high-quality greenway. Known as the "Fragrant Snow of the River Valley," it has seen over 20 km of greenway completed.

Huangpu has consistently followed the concept of "development in protection and protection in development" for the past 30 years, advocating the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. The construction of the Nangang River Basin is the most concrete and vivid example of this policy.

The basin has the highest concentration of administrative, technological and educational resources in Huangpu. It is also the most innovative and dynamic area in rhe region, and a magnet for talented workers. The arrival of a "happy river and lake" are adding more momentum to urban development while boosting people's wellbeing.

Huangpu has been promoting itself as an "aquatic city" based on shared governance and integration while building a waterfront space with Lingnan characteristics. Despite the rapid urbanization, both sides of the Nangang River still boast plenty of ecological space, with over 90 percent of those green areas having been ecologically restored.
