Eight departments, including the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission, have decided to set up 29 national import trade promotion and innovation demonstration zones nationwide, with Huangpu also making the list.
In recent years, Huangpu has continued to play the role of Guangzhou's main battlefield in terms of shoring up the local economy and serving as the key engine of scientific and technological innovation. It has also served as the main front for reform and opening-up by continuously expanding high-level examples of this, and consolidating the foundation of advantageous industries. Moreover, the district keeps encouraging innovations in industrial trade while promoting the high-quality development of trade.
In 2021, Huangpu's foreign trade imports and exports reached 326.4 billion yuan ($45.2 billion), a year-on-year increase of 17.3 percent, accounting for more than 30 percent of the total value in Guangzhou. Sources of imports include 192 countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative, such as the United States, Japan, South Korea, and the European Union.
