Huangpu district has seized the opportunities brought by the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and has made every effort to build a strong education district that matches its economic development in recent years.
Since 2015, Huangpu district has invested 30 billion yuan ($4.17 billion) in education development, with an average annual growth of 10 percent. Among them, the general public budget education expenditure in 2021 was 4.01 billion yuan, 3.05 times that of 2012.
In the past seven years, 69 new schools have been opened in Huangpu, 25 schools have been renovated and expanded, and a total of 1,881 new classes and more than 80,000 places for students have been added.
During the compulsory education period, the student capacity in Huangpu district has increased year by year, with an average annual increase of 10.5 percent in primary schools and 9.4 percent in middle schools. Since 2015, there have been 108 primary and middle schools operating in Huangpu district.
In the preschool education stage, there are currently 107 inclusive kindergartens in Huangpu district, an increase of 148.84 percent in the past 10 years. Among the total number of children in kindergartens in the district, the number of children in public kindergartens accounts for about 56 percent, and the number of children in inclusive kindergartens accounts for about 86 percent.
Relying on high-quality schools, Huangpu district has been actively exploring group-oriented school-running methods that meet the needs of its economic and social development.
At present, the number of Huangpu basic education groups has increased to 13, covering 60 schools, accounting for more than half of the schools in the district.
Huangpu district has also continued to hire teachers. In the past 10 years, Huangpu district has recruited more than 5,000 new teachers, double the total from 2012, of which more than 1,000 have a master's degrees or above. Huangpu district has also established Guangzhou's first teachers' academy, cultivating eight new special-grade teachers.
