TCM industry thrives in Huangpu

Guangzhou's Huangpu district has been committed to building a world-class biomedical industry cluster with a focus on the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) industry, local media outlets reported on Aug 4. 

The New Huangpu Traditional Chinese Medicine Joint Innovation Research Institute, which serves as a smart hospital, was recently inaugurated in Huangpu.

Co-founded by 12 biomedicine-related units, the hospital employs over 1,000 experts to conduct online consultations. Patients can find famous doctors in the country via this platform.

The hospital is committed to enhancing the integration of TCM and the most cutting-edge modern technologies as a pioneer in the scientific and technological innovation of TCM equipment and an incubator of the big health industry.

Huangpu has also formed a complete industrial ecological chain integrating R&D, pilot tests and production to inject vitality into the TCM industry and promote its innovative development.

At present, there are 21 TCM manufacturing enterprises with approved drug production licenses in Huangpu, accounting for one-third of the total number in Guangzhou. The revenue of the biomedicine industry in the district has exceeded 170 billion yuan ($ 25 billion), with 10 billion yuan of that figure being generated from the TCM industry.
