Huangpu provides patent open licensing

Updated : 2022-07-12

A press conference by China Southern Power Grid (CSPG) on patent open licensing and the signing ceremony of the first patent open license were held at Guangzhou Science City recently.

Patent open licensing refers to a type of patent licensing in which the holder of a patent submits an open license statement to the patent management authority to license its patent to any entity or individual, specifying the license royalties, enabling any potential licensee that pays the royalties to be granted the license.

Thanks to a new amendment to China's patent law that entered into force on June 1, 2021, patents in the country that have laid idle can be put into actual use easier. A patent open licensing system can facilitate communication between patent holders and potential licensees. The patent gazettes published by the patent management authority serve as a bridge for communication between patentee and licensee.

In December 2021, under the promotion of the Huangpu Intellectual Property Office, the scientific research institute of CSPG began to discuss the issue of patent open licensing, which was released seven months later.

The patent open licensing in CSPG covers 74 high-quality patents of 13 scientific research teams from six power supply bureaus of Guangdong Power Grid. Currently, it has received license applications for five of these patents from three companies.
