Guangzhou Development District (GDD) was included in the first batch of export bases for intellectual property (IP) services, according to a recent announcement made by the Ministry of Commerce.
As the only experimental area for comprehensive IP reform approved by the State Council, GDD is one of the regions with the most abundant and complete resources for the IP service industry in Guangdong province.
In recent years, GDD has given full play to the supporting role of IP rights in the high-quality development of enterprises and the expansion of international trade.
The district guides enterprises to cultivate high-value patents and enhance the core competitiveness of their export products. The number of invention patents authorized in the district has ranked first among China's economic development zones for several years.
The district established the first IP insurance center in the country, building a global IP protection service network. To date, 26 high-tech enterprises have taken out overseas tort liability insurance, with a total insured amount of 68.6 million yuan ($10.8 million).
It also built an IP service industrial park covering an area of 420 mu (28 hectares), gathering more than 300 domestic and overseas IP service institutions.
In the future, GDD will bolster its IP service export efforts, making IP serve the real economy, drive technological innovation, as well as promote industrial transformation and high-quality development.
