According to the first and second batches of the 2021 national list, 425 enterprises based in Huangpu were recognized as national high-tech companies, local media outlets reported on March 7.
The title of the national high-tech company has been regarded as a certificate with high value. Receivers of the title are able to enjoy a 40 percent discount in taxation as the tax rate will be 15 percent instead of the previous 25 percent.
Companies above the Huangpu district's designated size can receive a 1-million-yuan ($158,197) award, while others will receive a 300,000-yuan reward. Companies who earn the title for the first time can receive a 200,000-yuan incentive from the city, according to the city's supporting measures for high-tech companies' high-quality development.
Companies with a title below the designated size that have spent heavily in research and development will be eligible for an additional reward. In Huangpu district, only enterprises with the title are eligible to apply for gazelle companies.
As of now, Huangpu is home to over 2,200 national high-tech companies and 950 companies have applied for the title in 2021, ranking top among all districts in Guangzhou.
The district is expected to select 200 gazelle companies and add 100 more national high-tech companies in 2022, further integrating the outcome of scientific transformation with the real economy.
