Academicians Zhao Yuliang, Tang Benzhong and Chen Feiyong as well as professor Yan Guangmei and PhD Fang Guangyou were recruited as science mentors for schools in Guangzhou's Huangpu district on Sept 16.
The science mentors will host science popularization lectures, science practice lessons and after-school science popularization activities to help Huangpu cultivate innovative scientific research talents.
The letters of appointment are presented to two of the five scientists recruited as science mentors for schools in Huangpu on Sept 16.
The students will be invited to tour the research institutes and labs or enterprises of the science mentors to get a closer look at cutting-edge technology, and have face-to-face discussions with science mentors regarding scientific experiments and inventions.
As of now, Huangpu has attracted 1,151 high-level talents, of whom 103 are academicians. These talents have won 38 National Science and Technology Awards over the past five years, of which two are grand prize winners and 11 are first prize winners.
In addition, the district houses 1,000 high-end R&D institutions, eight high-level innovation research institutes, 17 municipal academician work stations, and more than 2,100 high-end enterprises.
