Guangzhou's Huangpu district has made notable achievements since its China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City was designated by the State Council as China's sole comprehensive pilot zone for intellectual property rights exertion and protection reform in 2016.
Huangpu's annual patent application has increased from 13,900 to 35,200 over the past five years, while its annual patent authorization has grown from 6,700 to 22,600. The IP-pledged financing has climbed from 148 million yuan to 2.61 billion yuan ($23 million to $404 million).
The number of national IP demonstrative and advantageous enterprises in the district has risen from nine to 74, according to a press conference held on July 13 to bring awareness about Huangpu's achievement in pilot IP reform.

At present, the district is home to more than 300 IP service institutions, of which more than 20 are national branded IP service institutions and seven are high-quality overseas IP service institutions. In addition, there are also three technology and innovation support centers, which were set up by the World IP Organization.
An all-around IP protection network covering administration, justice, mediation, arbitration and industrial self-discipline has taken shape in Huangpu with the introduction of IP protection centers, courts, arbitration courts, notary offices, mediation centers and alliances.
The district has produced a great deal of accomplishments that can be promoted throughout the country. The top 10 list of domestically and provincially pioneering reforms made by Huangpu in IPR exertion and protection reform was released at the press conference.
