Expressway to cut distance from Huangpu to Zengcheng and Tianhe

Updated : 2021-07-08

Construction of the Zengcheng-Tianhe Expressway, which will run through Xinlong town, Changling sub-district and Lianhe sub-district in Guangzhou's Huangpu district, recently began.

With a total investment of nearly 16 billion yuan ($2.47 billion), the 38.4-kilometer Zengcheng-Tianhe Expressway forms part of the Zengcheng-Foshan Expressway.

The east-west passage will start from Zengcheng's Zhucun sub-district and connect with the North Third Ring Expressway. It will pass through Huangpu and Baiyun districts to emerge into the Baiyun-Foshan section of the Zengcheng-Foshan Expressway. En-route there will be 11 interchanges. The maximum speed is set at 100 km per hour.

Once the construction is completed in 2025, the expressway will greatly alleviate the east-west traffic pressure in Guangzhou. In addition, it will create an efficient connection with the North Second Ring Road, the South China Express Road, and the Foshan-Qingyuan-Conghua Expressway.

The project will further enhance connections within Guangzhou, as well as the links between Guangzhou, Heyuan and Foshan. It will improve the expressway network in the Pearl River Delta, turn Guangzhou into an international transport hub, and accelerate the formation of a one-hour transport circle in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
