China's first shield machine capable of switching between three modes to target different stratums was recently deployed at the construction site of Luogang Station along the second phase of Guangzhou's Metro Line 7.
The shield machine was independently developed by China and some of its technology reach world leading level. The use of the machine is expected to increase construction efficiency by more than 30 percent.

The second phase of Guangzhou's Metro Line 7 spans 22 kilometers from Higher Education Mega Center South Station to Shuixi North Station. It will also incorporate the Shenjing, Changzhou, Hongshengsha, Yufengwei, Dashadong, Jitang, Jiazhuang, Kefeng Road, Luogang, and Shuixi stations. As of now, 38 percent of the section's civil engineering has been completed.
Once the second phase of Metro Line 7 comes into operation, Huangpu residents will be able to reach Guangzhou South Railway Station directly, or to transfer to the Pazhou feeder of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Railway, the east extension line of Metro Line 8, or Metro Line 13, 5, 19, 6 and 21.
Construction of the second phase of Guangzhou's Metro Line 13 between Chaoyang and Yuzhou stations and the east extension line of Guangzhou's Metro Line 5 between Wenchong and Huangpu Passenger Port stations is also progressing. To date, 29 percent of the civil engineering of the former and 22 percent of that of the latter has been completed.
