The plaque for the Drug Safety Evaluation Center (Toxicological Research Center) of the Guangdong Institute for Drug Control was unveiled in Guangzhou’s Huangpu district on Oct 10.
With an investment of 380 million yuan ($56 million), the facility possesses a floor area of 13,293 square meters and is located in Guangzhou Science City. It primarily engages in drug registration and testing, spanning evaluations prior to new drug releases, reevaluations after drugs enter the market, risk monitoring, as well as vaccine testing and approvals for release.
Currently, Huangpu biomedicine enterprises have to send their drugs to the National Institute for Food and Drug Control of the National Medical Products Administration in Beijing for safety evaluation, which will take as long as six months to complete. The time to complete evaluations will be reduced to one month once the center begins operations. This will greatly improve the efficiency of new drug R&D, registration, and marketization of local enterprises.
