A total of 15.8 kilometers in corridors with canopies will be built in the central area of Guangzhou's Huangpu district with bidding on their construction starting on April 16.
The construction, which will cost 157.52 million yuan ($22.24 million), has a total building area of 36,238.8 square meters.
The corridors will be built alongside 13 major roads, such as roads near three subway stations in Huangpu, and connect several landmark buildings including the Lingnan Hospital of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and the one-stop service center.
The corridors are expected to bring more convenience for pedestrians on both rainy and sunny days, as well as become a new part of the district's landscape.
Moderate development will be made to these corridors to make full use of its commercial value.
Five design plans have been launched for the corridors on different roads to meet the different functions of the roads.
