Yangcheng Evening News: EHang successfully uses UAVs to transfer medical supplies, staff

EHang, an autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV) technology platform company based in Guangzhou Development District (GDD), has announced its success in using its AAVs to transfer medical supplies and staff members on March 10.

Xue Peng, vice president of EHang, said that the EHang 216, the company's two-seater passenger-grade AAV, was used in the flight.

The flight was conducted in Hezhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, starting from Hezhou Square to the top of a building in Hezhou People's Hospital, which is four kilometers away from the starting point.

The AAV was fully controlled by computer and it automatically returned to the starting point after landing at the destination, finishing a round-trip flight of eight km.

A series of flight drills have also been conducted by EHang in Hezhou on the transportation of medical staff members, covering various conditions, such as night flights. The flight range has covered the whole city of more than 15 km and the highest cruising speed of the AAV can reach 90 km per hour.

Xue noted that EHang's AAVs will provide a new method for medical rescue both at home and abroad.

Currently, the company has made full use of the advantages of using AAVs to conduct missions, such as air inspections and transferring supplies. The company has successfully delivered masks and gloves to fever clinics in GDD during the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, which was named COVID-19 by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Xue added that the company will keep devoting efforts to carry out the transfer of medical supplies and staff members at larger scales and at longer distances.
