Huangpu sends Spring Festival greetings to migrant workers

Updated : 2020-01-20

More than 2,000 representatives of migrant workers from over 500 companies in Guangzhou's Huangpu district gathered at Guangzhou Baoneng Qoros Arena for a gala on Jan 17, which was Little New Year, also known as the Festival of the Kitchen God.

The gala was among one of the series activities that Huangpu held for those migrant workers who are staying in the district for the Spring Festival. The event has been held for 24 consecutive years.

During the gala, Huangpu’s trade union federation sent more than 2,000 calligraphy pieces of the Chinese character Fu, which means 'good fortune,' as well as 200 Spring Festival couplets for attendees.

Performances with strong Huangpu characteristics spanning dance, acrobatics and traditional opera were also staged.

Mo Yuanxi, a migrant worker from Dushan county of Qiannan autonomous prefecture in Guizhou province, has been working in Huangpu for 10 years.

"The past year, 2019, was a fruitful year for me as I got promoted at work and my hometown has built buildings and cement roads. I hope that the new year can be more prosperous," said Mo.
