Huangpu advocates spirit of volunteer service

A festival themed around volunteer service culture kicked off in Guangzhou's Huangpu district on Dec 5, the International Volunteer Day for Social and Economic Development, attracting more than 300 volunteers from 25 service teams in the district.

A photography exhibition was held, showcasing several volunteer service brands in Huangpu spanning poverty alleviation, assisting the disabled, as well as promoting civility. The development process of volunteer services for major events such as the Guangzhou Huangpu Marathon and the flower fair were also presented during the event.

A total of 10 excellent volunteer service teams and people were awarded during the event for their contribution to Huangpu's volunteer services.

Sub-venues of the festival have also been set up in five volunteer service stations in the district in December.

In the past five years, Huangpu has carried out 3,000 volunteer service activities involving 200,000 volunteers, serving 800,000 locals. By the end of November 2019, Huangpu has set up 45 volunteer service organizations and groups.
