The 24-hour pediatric emergency room at Lingnan Hospital of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) has opened again starting from Dec 2, about four years after it was stopped due to a lack of pediatricians.
With the rapid socio-economic development in Huangpu district, the district has witnessed a huge growth in population, especially in terms of the number of young adults, creating a high demand for local pediatric medical resources.
Through the continuous efforts of the district government, the total number of pediatric patient beds is expected to reach 662 in the next three years, three times the current number, to bolster the area's medical service capacity.
A financial fund has been invested in to support pediatric development. For medical institutions under the district government, a subsidy of 10,000 yuan ($1,421.41) is available for each pediatric patient bed opened.
The overall subsidy Huangpu invested in 2018 for pediatric construction in areas like upgrading medical staff's salary and professional training reached 3.87 million yuan, while the number for 2019 currently amounts to 3.88 million yuan.
Shan Yutao, head of the medical administration department of Lingnan Hospital, said that the hospital has set up a tiered diagnosis and treatment system, giving priority to critical patients.
