Huangpu Customs has gained great momentum in the first 11 months of this year in assisting local companies to import grain from countries alongside the Belt and Road.
From January to November, Huangpu Customs has dealt with 1.76 million metric tons of grain imported from BRI countries like Ukraine and Russia, up 81.08 percent year-on-year.
Xinsha Customs, under Huangpu Customs, has been strengthening its connection with ports and upgrading facilities at the ports, such as scraper-type automatic grain unloading machines and automatic sampling systems.
"Huangpu Port is the third largest grain import port in China, having been handling more than 10 million tons of grain annually in recent years. The ratio of imported grain through Huangpu Port in China's total number has been climbing, making Huangpu Customs District the logistics and processing base for the grain industry in South China and even the whole country," said Huang Weixing, deputy director of Huangpu Customs' animal and plant quarantine office.
"Transporting grains to other areas like Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and Hainan after inspections at Huangpu Port has become a common practice and a major way to import grains from BRI countries by sea," added Huang.
To open itself to a wider global market, Huangpu Customs has simplified approval procedures, shortening time for approval and examination.
"We also use an online system to put companies importing grains on record to bring more convenience for them," noted Wang Wenjian, a staff member from Huangpu Customs' animal and plant quarantine office.
Policy briefings have also been held by Huangpu Customs on relevant policies to import grains from BRI countries. "We've also paid on-site tours to companies and hold conversations to have a face-to-face communication with them, offering individual services for each company," added Wang.
"We will explore more ways to import grains to Guangdong, such as the China-Europe freight trains that depart from Guangdong's Shilong," added Huang.
