The Guangzhou International Bio Island in Guangzhou’s Huangpu district and the Guangzhou Development District are home to a cluster of international bio-medicine enterprises.
Guangzhou’s Huangpu district and the Guangzhou Development District (GDD) signed agreements with two Fortune 500 companies on the second day of the second China International Import Expo in Shanghai on Nov 6.
According to the strategic memorandum between GDD and British-Swedish pharmaceutical multinational AstraZeneca, the company will build its South China headquarters in the district and launch its first independent legal entity in South China.
The headquarters will offer services such as business operation, management, marketing and sales and innovation incubation, as well as technical support in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and South China.
It will promote sales of imported new drugs and play an active role in attracting more British companies in the field to the district.
The district will support the project in administrative approval procedures and applying for a drug trade license.
The two parties will cooperate in exploring a new platform for the development of the health and medical industry, promote talent exchange and cultivation and improve the medical services of the district.
AstraZeneca is a global-leading pharmaceutical giant driven by innovation. In 2018 its global operation revenue reached $22 billion and its sales volume in China amounted to $3.8 billion.
Nov 6 also saw Guangzhou Suikai Power Energy Co, a State-owned enterprise under the GDD reach a strategic cooperation framework agreement with ABB Group, a leading company in the global electric industry.
According to the agreement, it will cooperate with ABB in photovoltaic and energy storage smart energy projects, building new energy smart micro grid spanning photovoltaic roofs, energy storage systems, and charging piles.
ABB Group boasts advanced and reliable energy storage system technology and smart energy solutions.
According to a representative of Suikai, there are broad prospects in the user side optical storage market which is likely to experience an outbreak in the next one or two years.
The cooperation with ABB will create demonstrable and replicable demonstration projects, which will greatly enhance the industrial competitiveness of the company and help create new experiences in the energy development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the representative added.
The Guangzhou Development District has been making efforts to attract investment and improve its business environment in recent years, and has welcomed more than 3,400 foreign-invested companies from over 100 countries and regions.
The GDD will integrate itself into the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area development plan and promote international cooperation in a bid to upgrade its opening-up in an all-round way.
