A group of award-winning terminal products and solutions were launched at the event.
A total of 35 projects covering industrial internet, internet-connected cars, intelligent medicine, intelligent transportation, intelligent security systems and intelligent industrial parks, made it into the Guangdong sub-contest of the national competition from 266 applicants since its launch in June.
The projects won five first prizes, eight second prizes, 10 third prizes and 12 excellence awards. Five projects from Huangpu bagged some of the prizes in the competition.
Huangpu-based tech firm Comba Telecom Systems brought its "5G+intelligent manufacturing" application scenario, a "5G cloud station + Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC)" solution, which was praised by the expert judges and audience members.
The solution solves the problems of unreliable wireless communication, imperfect navigation modes and insufficient intelligence of mobile robots and can help improve the intelligence and lower the cost of automated guided vehicles (AGV) in factories.
The first 5G-based bus route in the world made its debut in Huangpu district, Guangdong province in May.
Bus route No 333, which was launched by Guangzhou Jumbo Bus Group, a bus investment and operation company, and China Telecom is an innovative application of 5G technology.
The company will expand the service to more bus routes, with the next one to be No 336, which will be put into operation soon according to He Zhaoxin, a senior executive of the company.
He added that plans are to build a 5G vehicle industrial park and a 80,000-sq-m new energy bus station with investment of 600 million yuan ($846,478).
One highlight of the contest is its focus on tackling the pain points of the demand-side and coordinating innovation between parties involved in the 5G industry.
Among the 35 award-winning projects, 33 were jointly developed by various providers and their consumers including industrial enterprises, urban management authorities, hospitals and educational institutions.
More than 20 projects are being inked. They include two cooperation projects, a 5G-based intelligent steel factory and an intelligent industrial park developed by Chinese tech giant Huawei.
In addition, an industrial park management based on Comba’s 5G+ MEC technology has been implemented.
A strategic cooperation framework agreement was signed by eight parties including Guangzhou Development District Industrial Fund Investment Group to build an ecosphere for the fifth generation of communication technology industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
