Guangzhou to build "China Nano Valley"

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was recently signed by the Administrative Committee of Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (SSGKC),the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, and Science City (Guangzhou) Investment Group for the building of "China Nano Valley" in Guangzhou, capital city of South China's Guangdong province.

The MoU aims to build the complex into a nano innovation industrial cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The industrial cluster, which will cover an area of 1.1 square kilometers, will have parks for nano intelligent technology, nano life and health technology, nano energy and environmental technology, and nano super composite material technology.

According to the plan, the initial part of the nano intelligent technology park with an area of 300 mu (200,000 sq m)is already under construction, with topping-off scheduled by the end of this year. This part occupies a land area of 100 mu and is designed to accommodate talent apartments, facilities for research and development and incubationandoffices for headquarters and commercial purposes.

Nano technology has become the focus of emerging frontier research featuring cross-study inleading and supporting roles. It is expected to promote high-quality development of pillar industries and nurtureemerging industries in the future.

The building of a nano innovation industrial cluster in the Greater Bay Area will accelerate the application of scientific innovations of nano technology across the world, develop high-end industrial structures, and cultivate an industrial cluster and ecological environment with an emphasis upon disruptive technology.

The nano innovation industrial cluster will be mainly involved in the transfer and industrialization of the latest scientific innovations of relevant technology at home and abroad, the aggregation of advanced and key industrial technology and intellectual property rights, and the development of a collection of major industrial projects.

More specifically, the industrial cluster will rally support from scientific research forces from home and abroad and work with leading enterprises to focus on the development of nano intelligent medicine, nano medical equipment,cutting-edge display technology and other advanced sectors in a drive to nurture a number of high-tech and innovative firms in connection with emerging industries.

The industrial cluster will strive for the globalized development of its industries, become the center of nano technology expansion and lead the growth of neighboring regions as it develops into a nano-based market valued in trillions of yuan.
