Guangzhou's Huangpu district will build a 5G-based pilot area for intelligent connected vehicles (ICV) with Guangzhou Public Transport Group and the China Electronic Product Reliability and Environmental Testing Research Institute (CEPREI).
The three parties signed a strategic cooperation agreement at a forum featuring the innovation of 5G-based ICV industry in the district on July 14.
The district's ICV industrial base was also unveiled at the event, which announced the construction of China's first demonstration island for integrated applications of autopilot technology.
The forum also witnessed the launches of a demonstration route for self-driving buses and five demonstration taxis for development of self-driving technology in the city's International Biotech Island.
The new demonstration programs signal that Huangpu has entered a new era formobility as aservice application.
A multi-functional AI-based autonomous driving bus, nicknamed "panda bus" and developed by DeepBlue Technology, China's leading artificial intelligence (AI) firm, was the only passenger vehicle brand with a 5G license at the forum.
Huangpu and the Guangzhou Development District are speeding up the commercialization of 5G technology and striving to develop the first demonstration zone in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
They have opened the world's first bus route equipped with 5G technology and built the country's first 5G-based intelligent parking space and first 5G autopilot test ground in China.
By the end of June, Huangpu had built 500 5G base stations and the number is expected to reach 5,000 by year end.
Meanwhile, the district has initiated an infrastructure network based on 5G technology and the industrial internet.
