Nanfang Daily: Guangzhou residents expected to travel by helicopter to Hong Kong, Macao

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project of the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Exit and Entry Building was recently opened for bidding.

According to the request for bids, the building will cover a planned area of 26,500 square meters and have a total floorage of 31,200 sq m and a height of less than 60 m. A helipad is planned for its rooftop.

Located in the western area of the GDD and east of Dongjiang Avenue, the project will be built for no more than 347 million yuan ($50.45 million), the announcement said.

It will be more convenient for the residents in Guangzhou to travel to Hong Kong and Macao upon its completion in May 2020.

The Guangzhou Development District (GDD) and the Guangzhou Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (GHIDZ) held a launching ceremony of the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Smart Manufacturing Special Cooperation Zone and major projects such as Sun Wah Guangzhou-Hong Kong Town on May 28.

As the start-up project of the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Smart Manufacturing Special Cooperation Zone, Sun Wah Guangzhou-Hong Kong Town will be built with an investment of not less than 10 billion yuan.

According to planning, the town will be developed into a high-end trade port in line with China Hong Kong City in Tsim Sha Tsui, one of Hong Kong's major business districts. It will also help expand Guangzhou's presence as an international trade hub. The new business area is expected to have an operating income of 100 billion yuan.

In addition to the exit and entry building, the special cooperation zone will also house the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Independent Yacht Travel Wharf, the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Helicopter Passenger Station, and the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Smart Manufacturing Cooperation Center, five-star hotels and high-end talent apartments.

According to the construction plan, the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Exit and Entry Building will open a water route connecting the Western District of the Guangzhou Development District with the Hong Kong Airport and the Macao Airport.

After the water route opens it will take only 1 hour and 20 minutes to travel to the Hong Kong Airport, and 1 hour and 50 minutes to get to Tsim Sha Tsui.

The western area of the GDD will be the "Tsim Sha Tsui" of Guangzhou. When the helipad gains the approval of local authorities, people in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao will be able to travel by helicopter within the region.
