Nanfang Daily: Guangzhou school opens special class for HK and Macao students

The Affiliated Foreign Language School of South China Normal University recently announced that it will offer pilot classes for Hong Kong and Macao children who live and study in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province.

It is the first private school in the city providing public education services for Hong Kong and Macao's school-aged children in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The school, a modern and international institution of high quality in the city's Huangpu district, consists of primary and secondary education. It has advanced educational concepts, superior educational and teaching facilities, and a good environment for accommodation, living and study.

The school will start to recruit students in September this year. It plans to enroll one class of the first grade at elementary level and one class of the first grade at the junior middle school, with no more than 30 students in each of them.

Only students with Hong Kong and Macao residence permits can be recruited into these two classes.

The school will open political courses, Chinese language and history and geography instruction and will also integrate the national curriculum with the curriculum proposed by the Hong Kong's education authority, implementing an integrated teaching style, said an official from the district's education authority.

To ensure quality, the school will recruit teachers with a national Teacher's Qualification Certificate and organize special training for the staff.

Meanwhile, it will also invite teachers with Hong Kong teacher's qualification to join the school, preparing these students for a better connection to the HK education system.

The school will give Hong Kong and Macao children more diverse educational choices, attract more Hong Kong and Macao professionals to work in the district, and promote the development of the Greater Bay Area.
