Nanfang Daily: Innovation center under preparation in Huangpu

The first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) High-end Scientific Instrument Industry Development Forum was held in Huangpu district on April 25.

At the forum, the preparatory work for the GBA High-end Scientific Instrument Industry Promotion Association was started.

Represented by Guangzhou Hexin Instrument Co., Ltd., Huangpu sent its invitation to GBA hoping for joint and coordinated development in the high-end scientific instrument industry.

"It is not easy to cultivate upstream and downstream industries because the development of high-end scientific instruments is prolonged, and comes with huge investment," said Zhou Zhen, chairman and chief scientist of Hexin.

He said that scientific instruments are indispensable tools for scientific research and technological innovation. Whoever has the right of speech on high-end scientific instruments can occupy the highland of scientific research and technological innovation, and grasp the opportunities for innovative development.

The GBA High-end Scientific Instrument Industry Promotion Association, sponsored by Hexin and other relevant units in the domestic scientific instrument industry, will develop an innovation and industrial chain, promote resource sharing and coordinated development of the high-end scientific instrument industry, foster industrial clusters and enhance industrial competitiveness.

"After the establishment of the association, we will prepare for the construction of the Innovation Center," said Zhou adding that six new innovation platforms are planned: an Industry Research Institute, a Technology Research Institute, a Business Incubator, a Talent Training Base, an Application Demonstration Center, and a Science Popularization Education Platform.

The Innovation Center hopes to achieve an annual output value of 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion) within ten years, including 40 to 50 instrument manufacturing enterprises and 20 to 30 core component enterprises. Zhou said that this is a complete chain covering government, industry, university resources, research, users and financing.
