Guangzhou Science City launched a worldwide competition on March 11 to seek plans for improving its planning.
The event organizers said they welcome design entities or consortiums from home and abroad to submit plans and help expand the Science City’s accommodation capacity.
After more than two decades’ development, Guangzhou Science City houses a group of industrial clusters, including information technology, bio-medicine and new materials.
Though the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area brings the Science City new opportunities, it also creates challenges, such as limited space for development and efficiency of land use.
According to the notice, Huangpu district and Guangzhou Development District hope that the participants will research the 486-square-kilometer Huangpu district and a bio-island and optimize the planning of the 144.65-sq-km area allocated for expanding its accommodation capacity, define the goal and strategies for the 144.65-sq-km, and submit an industrial development report and general design scheme that covers ecology and transportation.
In addition, one or two sites of one sq km should be selected to receive more detailed planning on layout, transportation, ecology, facilities, public space, landscaping and scheduling in the core area of Guangzhou Science City, a 1.32-sq-km area to the south of Yingri Road and the north of Lanyue Road.
