The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Urban Public Sculpture Exhibition opened in Huangpu district on Jan 20. This is the first large-scale sculpture exhibition ever held in the area.

The first stop of the exhibition will be the Huangpu Public Library and will last for ten days, until Jan 28. The second stop is the Guangzhou Opera House, where it will stay until the end of March.

At the opening ceremony, Li Ming, Sun Zhenhua and other sculptors and well-known scholars of art theory proposed the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Public Sculpture Development Alliance.

The Alliance intends to integrate creation, research, exhibition and exchange of public sculpture in the area. It will be an important method for supporting the culture and art of the area, and will deepen cultural and artistic exchanges between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao.

Famous sculptors and art-theory scholars from all over the country held academic seminars after the opening ceremony to provide suggestions for the development prospects of public art in the area.

"Guangzhou is also known as the Goat City – the Five-ram Sculpture has left a vivid memory for our city," said Zhu Xiaoxiang, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee. Good sculpture works should not only be displayed in palaces, but also occupy every corner of urban public space, planting seeds of art in the hearts of citizens. "Only when people here love the art of sculpture can Guangzhou be known as a sculpture city."
