Insurance
Required by Ministry of Education, foreign students must be covered by medical and accidental injury insurance plan during their study in China. You can purchase medical or travel insurance in your own country or you can purchase if when you arrive in China. The foreign student medical insurance costs about RMB 300 per half year (one semester).
Postal Service
China Post is the official postal service in China, offering both domestic and international mail and parcel services. EMS (Express Mail Service) is a global mail service operated by post offices all over the world. China Post is one of its operators. The maximum weight of an EMS parcel is 30 to 40 kg for different destinations. Other international express mail services such as FedEx, DHL, UPS and TNT are also available in China.
Mobile Phone
There are three main mobile carriers in China: China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom. You can buy a SIM card in China and insert it into your mobile phone. A standard SIM card is cheap and prepaid charging card are available in stores and newsstands, and they are easy to use with bilingual prompt.
International Phone Card
International phone cards are available in post offices, hotels and newsstands. IC and IP cards are recommended for convenience and low price.
Valuable items
We do not encourage foreign students bring unnecessary valuable items with them. Please keep all valuables (cash, watch, camera etc) in a safe place. Your personal items are your responsibility.
Drinking Water
Tap water is undrinkable in China. You are advised to drink boiled water or buy bottled water.
Voltage
The voltage in China is 220. Converters and power strips may be purchased locally.
Currency
Currency circulated in China is Renminbi (abbreviated as RMB).
