The demand for Hechi-made zongzi is experiencing a significant increase in anticipation of the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, which is set to take place on June 10.

A substantial quantity of zongzi, a traditional Chinese sticky rice dumpling from Hechi, has flooded the market, with bulk orders pouring in from both within the region and beyond, including areas such as Nanning, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Inner Mongolia.

Hongsao Food, established in December 2019, recently relocated to the Changshou Ecological Food Industrial Park in Donglan county on June 9, 2023. The company continues to focus on the production and promotion of its distinctive handmade zongzi.

The month before the Spring Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival represents the peak season for the company. This year, the daily zongzi output has doubled compared to the previous year, reaching 30,000 zongzi per day, with a peak order of up to 50,000.

Hongsao Food uses high-quality selenium-rich glutinous rice, locally selected pork, and unique leaves, resulting in zongzi with a distinct and fragrant aroma. Donglan, known as the hometown of chestnuts in Guangxi, provides premium chestnuts as ingredients for the zongzi.

Furthermore, the advancement of industrial development has also promoted improvements in zongzi processing, packaging, and other techniques to meet market demands. In the company’s sterilization workshop, zongzi, once cooked and cooled, are vacuum-packed and then subjected to a second sterilization process. Zongzi treated with a second sterilization can be stored at room temperature for 30 days or frozen for six months.
