Huang Xiongna, a 16-year-old girl from Hechi, claimed the top prize at the Guangxi teenage folk song competition in Nanning, capital city of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on April 18.
The contest was co-organized by the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association and the Wuming district government of Nanning city.
Huang stood out from among 32 primary and middle school students who came from cities such as Nanning, Liuzhou, Hechi and Baise.
Huang grew up in a Zhuang ethnic family in Guangxi with parents who are locally recognized for their singing talent. Huang began learning to sing with her father and started to attend antiphonal singing activities from a young age.
With talent in both writing and singing, Huang has performed well in a number of singing competitions in Yizhou district and Guizhou province.
Huang said she will not become distracted by success, but keep pushing herself to do better. She wants to spread her traditional ethnic culture to the outside world.
